Well, what can I say? Spice Girls were great, as was Elbow, Ed Sheeran, and the Kaiser Chiefs. But Madness were dreadful and the Pet Shop Boys were embarrassing. How come George Michael got to sing 2 songs. I think we didn't need to have the sour faced clothes horses traipsing around. And Russell Brand - how come he got to be on? The opening ceremony was brilliant but the closing ceremony sent me to bed just as the speeches began. I was under the impression that it would be music which stretched over fifty years - more like the past five years. What a disappointment!

I agree that Madness and the Pet Shop Boys have had their day. They are not with it any more.

I was very impressed with the Spice Girls though. They seem to have improved with age and would give them all 'my seal of approval' if you know what I mean.

i had to go to bed early - so i recorded it.
looked this morning - and the recording failed .. so i've ,,issed it (grrrrrrrrr)
Stayed up and watched the whole thing, Eric Idle and The Who were great, and what a relief that MaCartney didn't take part. Not enough fireworks!
Who was the singer in the black sequined suit? No name came up on the screen.
Male or female?
Tinie Tempah or Taoi Cruz? George Michael?
Not as good as the opening ceremony. However, it was also my understanding that it was to be a celebration of British music so where was the stirrings of Pomp, Brittania, Jerusalem etc? Dissappointed at Pet Shop, Geo Michael, Madness - Where was Tom Jones, Shirley B etc?
I thought it started badly and got better but on the whole whilst visually spectacular I was not happy.

It's showing now on BBC red button, in Sport Home.
Started 6a.m, ends 12.50p.m., but will probably play again during the week.
Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy was the guy in the sequined suit.
Best song - Eric Idle, Always look on the bright side of life.

Worst song - Ray Davies, Waterloo. Great song really, but his voice had gone.
Agree about Eric ... direct link to his bit :

Waterloo Sunset? I thought that was marvellous. I think Ray Davies's voice has held up rather better than that of many of the other performers.
the last five years???

waterloo sunset

wannabe
the who
always look on the bright side of life
even rule the world only just comes in the last five years!
George got to sing two songs because he is a world superstar and can actually SING .thought all things consideredhe looked great , but then I am a fan. Both the opening and closing ceremonies were fabulous. I have to say I thogh that the olypics was a luxuary we couldnt afford but I got drawn in and loved every minute of it.
^^thought- dough
George Michael was miming the second song! He looked all bloated and old! Thought the guy from the Kinks was great, and the Pet shop boys!
I did think that the woman who started it all off was very good - is her name Emily Sanchez? so something similar? - I don't think that she was miming, at any rate - unlike a few out there!
I thought the closing ceremony was much better. Loved \ray \davies, his voice is still good although he looked ridiculous with that dyed hair and pencilled in eyebrows. Loved Eric Idle and always have.

Who was the male singer in the dark suit who sang quite a bit (looked a bit like a young Ray Winston) I liked him. Love My generation but should have changed the words, "Glad I didn't die before I got old!!"
I answered that elsewhere Neti!! Guy Garvey, Elbow
