help with xbox media remote

i want the media remote to control x box eg netflix etc as i find controller is troublesome for me not the tv , free sat box.do i jus5t press and hold mute and 5 tothen enter code 9999 and press select. i am an old biddy of 70 years young so please help if you can.thanks in advance
