I have just cancelled my subscription to sky
I presume I just re-attach my tv ariel to the set and re-tune - is that correct
Also will I keep my dish in place in case I decide later to re-subscribe?

Many thanks

Or you could leave everything exactly as it is and carry on using the sky box to watch the free satellite channels...

Oh I did not know I could do that
Many thanks - its saved me a job

I didn't realise that could be done either, we've been looking at cancelling sky but couldn't afford the freeview at the moment
I also cancelled my sky subscription and just receive the free channels through the dish.No need to connect to another aerial. Have kept sky for my broadband and phone line.Has more than halved my sky bill. I have also got free sat upstairs in bedroom attached to the sky dish.

Its ridiculous - I was/am paying £90 a month and I have unlimited internet on my iphone which I use more than getting the laptop out
Welcome to a Skyless world!
I ditched mine over a year ago and haven'ty missed it for one minute. It saddens me when I think of the thousands spent on watching tv that it turns out I couldn't care less about!

I too use my old sky box for watching free-to-air channels. I recommend going through the channels one by one to see which you can and cannot receive. Set the viewable ones as favourites and via the favourites menu you now have only those channels available.
I got rid of Sky about 5 years ago and haven't missed it once. Its good advice to keep the dish and watch the free channels, although I didn't as I never watched them anyway!
You can buy a Sky freesat card for a one off price of £25 and just put it in your box in place of the subscription card. The free sat card gives you all the standard freeview channels and some more, you only pay the one off £25 no sobscription.

Eddie, you don't need to buy a card when you cancel Sky. Your old Sky card continues to work for free channels.
Eddie, the normal sky card will continue to work with the free channels when the service is cancelled.
Snap :)
Great minds think alike

(or is it fools seldom differ)
The old card will continue to work for a few months but Sky will eventually cut you off unless you subscribe again or buy a freesat card. The freesat card will last indefinately for no extra fee. It also has quite a few more channels than the ordinary freeview ones.
is there a tiny chance it may have the sports channels eddie? :)

I am thinking of cancelling too as we only watch a couple of the channels but will miss being able to record with Sky+. Does anone know if you can still watch Sky Sports NEWS. It is the sports news we will miss the most. I never subscribed to the sports channels but Saturday afternoon without Jeff & Kammy won't be the same :(
"The old card will continue to work for a few months but Sky will eventually cut you off unless you subscribe again or buy a freesat card."

Not true. I cancelled Sky in December 2010 and still use the same card now with no issues. I receive the Freeview channels plus many more besides (altho they are mainly tat!).
