Remakes of old films....

was just wondering what others thought of these?? Do you watch them? I have never watched Johnny Depps Willy Wonka, love the original sooo much. Won't be watching the new Clash of the Titans either.
What others are there?

Tim Burton's "Re-imagining" of Planet Of The Apes wasn't all that bad. TB also did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and it's (Mostly) along the same lines as the original, but tweaked in certain areas.

I don't know if it was a conversation on this site or with someone I work with, but, Weird Science was mentioned for the remake treatment - not too sure about that thbough. I'm quite looking forward to seeing Clash Of The Titans.
well I do watch them, usually to see what sort of a job they make, usually I'm dissapointed. Most recent dissapointments include, "the day the Earth stood still" and the truly appalling "war of the worlds". Just leave them alone, there is so much material screaming out to be made into films but the suits won't take a chance and keep doing remakes of things that are already excellent. Saw Pearl Harbour the other day, ok not a disaster but not a patch on "Tora x3".
How about a remake of 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'?

The D'Ascoynes would *have* to be played by Paul Whitehouse and Tom Hardy in the Mazzini roles.

I'd pay to see that, but Hollywood would never consider it; and unless it contained guns and geezers, or nerds chasing nubiles, nor will the British Film industry. :o(
If they ever remake Frankenstein I'll die.
The Cohens are remaking True Grit, but I doubt it will be the same without the Duke.
One of my all time favorite film scenes is the "Well fill your hand your hand you son of a bitch" one near the end of the film. You would have thought that by now these people would have realised that it takes more then a good story to make a great film
There seem loads of them, Italian Job, The Day of the Jackal, Oceans 11 etc etc. I am generally of the opinion that you can't beat the original, though there is always an exception to every rule. Not that I can think of one at the moment, but Heaven Can Wait starring Warren Beatty which is a remake of Here Comes Mr Jordan, and The Parent Trap are both pretty good remakes.
King Kong was well overdue.
What!!!!!!! (stands to her full height!) they are remaking True Grit???? How the hell can they improve on that?? Who else could ride a tall horse with 4 white socks?
I said I wouldnt ever watch willy wonka but you'd be surprised at how good it is
If a film is remade shouldn't it add to or enhance? All to often, it seems to me, that films are remade simply for money.

I have never been a fan of Psycho butwhen it was remade scene for scene I was thinking who could play it better than Anthony Perkins.

Willy Wonka to me is Gene Wilder not Johnny Depp (Who I think is a great actor) and having watched the new version over easter Willy Wonka is still Gene Wilder.

I love Kind Hearts and Coronets but its of its time could a remake ever improve on it.

The 1920 John Barrymore version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will always be the best.
The "Texas chainsaw massacre" remake was not as good as the original imo.
The remake of the old Glenn Ford Film '3.10 to Yuma' with Russell Crowe in lead role is better than the original. Superb Film !
Wasn't there a remake of the "Bridge over river Kwai"?
