Film

this is driving me crazy coz i want to see it again.
I have written a description of it to the best of my memory, if it rings any bells please let me know

The film begins with a band of pirates/sailors making their way through a jungle, they come across a village where they are trapped, only two of them escape the hero, and an oriental man who carries a sword deguissed as a stick, and he throws knives the oriental man is killed from behind by a spear and only the hero is left he is then captured by soilders and an old enemy he is imprisoned awaiting to be hung. The rest of the film is the hero recounting the events that led up to this piont to his cell mate.
The band of pirates/sailors are set up by this old enemy who has a vendetta against them, soon every one is looking for them as they are believed to be commiting raids and murder
the rest of my memeory is a little hazy, the hero and his band set about to restore their good name, and end up reluctently teaming up with a nobleman and his woman, the nobleman hates the men initially but later on warms to the hero.
at the end of the film there is a steel ship/ u boat captained by a crazy german and a big sword fight on board, Once the hero has finished his story he is about to be hung when the noble man and woman rescue him that is the end.
I think it was made between the late seventies and late eighties, but could have streched to the early nineties but i doubt it.
I thinkl the film is set at the turn of the twentith century, but could be anywhere from 200 years previous. it is an adventure film with comedy moments and a slight tounge in cheek feel. The main bad guy sticks in my head as simular to nicol williamson who played merlin in excalibur(but it wasnt him) i vagely remember a long black coat and black hat.
