Callan

I was doing some research on Callan the other day and I found something interesting on IMDb.The 1974 film of Callan has an alternative US title listed,The Neutralizer.Does anyone know if this was the title it was given on it's first release in the US,or whether it was given to the film later to tie in with the success of The Equalizer?
