Film

supporting films

In the 70s and 80s when going to the pictures to see a film there was a film on before the main film. These films had a name (not support or trailer). It was shown before the feature film and sometimes had an intermission between the 2 films.

Anyone else remember this and remember what we called them please?

Remember it well - we used to call them supporting films, but I dont know if that was the correct title.

I also remember there had to be a break during the main film to change the reel.

Those were the days!

I remember them as well - espcially when Monty Python brought out one of their films - foget which one, and they produced the 'support' film as well, which was a clever pastiche of the serioiusly boring travelogues they used to put on.

I think it was narated by John Cleese, and referred frequently to gondolas, before eventually Mr C lost his rag and had a complete purple about the 'bloody gondolas ...!'

Class.

I remember and I used to love it if the supporting film was an Edgar Allen Poe mystery!
