American WWII B&W film made early 1940s

Name wanted for a film about the war in the Pacific, It ended with two soldiers in a trench or dugout, one looking at a medallion or somesuch, and Japanese soldiers jumping in and bayoneting them. Unusal ending (the villains were allowed to win' just for once) but was probably propaganda?

Thanks. Not quite sure it fits the bill, but I saw the film 60+ years ago, so my memory is hardly likely to be perfect.
I 'see' the two US soldiers in a trench (alongside the camera) . The Jap jumps in from the front / above - as far as I recall, and the dying soldier looks at the medallion / picture of wife /girfriend or whatever.
