Audio Description Tracks

I have a list from the RNIB of DVDs with Audio Description tracks. Are these special editions of the DVD for visually impaired people, or will this come as an additional audio track on the regular edition?

Popular films with Audio Description (so you might check on your own DVD collections):
Beowulf (& 2 disc directors cut)
Brick Lane
Ratatouille (2&3 disc versions)
The Simpsons Movie

Excellent Rating
Hi there -
Audio described tracks are appearing more and more on dvds. For those who don't know, a narrator fills in the sound gaps in films where there is a lot of action on screen but little dialogue and the narrator tells what is happening on screen.
The tracks appear on the regular dvds, normally in the language options menu so you don't have to buy a special version of the film. Beowulf, for instance, gives you the option of watching the film with actors dubbing the voices into Italian, German, Spanish, or watching it with the Audio Described soundtrack. All on the standard dvd as sold in the shops.
Hope this helps.
