Gladiator

Can anyone tell me who fathered the princesses little boy in Gladiator. Im sorry if this is an obvious question to some but I have only caught bits of the film and now that I am engrossed its bugging me lol

As far as I can recall it's not really specified, nor is it really important to the film. If memory serves, the father was some peer of Maximus, a soldier or general in Marcus Aurelius' army who had been killed some time before the events in the film. However, I think it was strongly hinted that Maximus and Lucilla (the 'princess') had possibly a bit of history and maybe therefore Lucius Verus was biologically Maximus' son. This last bit is just conjecture on my part, however.
