I remember the following scene from a film - possibly a John Grishom or other courtroom drama but as I've seen so many I can't remember which! A main witness (an elderly man) gives an important testomony which is then discounted as he had a rape conviction. He reveals later it was for statutory rape and he slept with the girl when she was just under the age of consent and he was just over. He went on to marry the woman and stayed married for the rest of their lives.
I think its "A Time to Kill" where Samuel L Jackson is on trial for trying to avenge the rape of his daughter. The defence psychologist admits to being found guilty of statutory rape years earlier but then it comes out that the "victim" was his then girlfriend of 17 who he later married.
