Where is this place?

there is a location on many films which i would love to know where it is! I first saw it on ET. Its the part when Eliot has put down all the smarties on a cliff side! Over the cliff you can see a fantastic view of a city and all its light on!! Cant think off the top of my head right now of any other films it is in but it is!!! Hope someone can help cheers!! Hope ive made sense in this question!! Cheers again!x
