David Lynch style??!

Can anybody help? A long while ago i watched a film on c4 that resembled David lynch's work. It was about a salesman travelling around america, seemingly losing his mind, there was a running theme of antenna's & communication, as i remember there was very little dialogue and the film was full off imagery which veered on the dark side. One resounding image was of a lightbulb on a cord being swung around & around in a dark wooden building. It would have been about 10yrs ago i watched this so no doubt things are vague but i would love to track it down, j :)
