The Greatest Film Ever Made

According to a new poll the critics have ousted Citizen Kane from No 1 which apparently is the greatest film, it is now Hitchcock's Vertigo. I love Hitchcock's movies, but what is your greatest film or films I go for Godfather, Psycho, Shawshank Redemption Brief Encounter,Now Voyager.

The Sting
deffo not Vertigo, don't like it at all. Kane is still a lot of fun.

Maybe 2001 or Les Enfants du Paradis. Too soon to decide on other recent films.
Mary.

there are half a dozen that i would classify as my best ever movies .. and i could not put any one of them above the others ---- however, the shawshank redemption is one of them
My vote goes to "Some Like It Hot", with the best of the Ealing comdies (e.g. "The Ladykillers" or "The Lavender Hill Mob") also being up near the top. (I'd like to include "Psycho" in my list but simply thinking about the shower scene makes me shiver!).

The foregoing assumes that we're restricted to mainstream Hollywood or British movies though. In general I much prefer watching French or Spanish films, such as Bigas Luna's "La Teta y la Luna". ("The Tit and the Moon").
Sound of music
Love it
Shawshank and Some like it hot are in my top ten movies of all time but what criteria do the movie buffs require to be the greatest movie of all time?
"Les Enfants du Paradis" (and "Cinema Paradiso") would also feature in a list of my favourite films, Jno.

"Taare Zameen Par" is also worthy of consideration.

(It's good to know that I'm not the only person who looks beyond Hollywood!)
Shawshank Redemption, It's A Wonderful Life.

Great choices! let the critics have their choice and we the viewing public will have ours. We are in agreement with lots so far.
For me, The Green Mile, Trainspotting and Into the Wild, are some of my favourites that I think can be put in that category.
The greatest film ever made depends on your individual taste imo, mine would probably be Godfather 1.
I also enjoyed The World According to Garp. I hate to admit it but me and the kids loved "Drop Dead Fred"
