Film endings.

I recently watched 'Bridge on the river Kwai', and at the end the Japanese colonel was killed by gunfire in shallow water. I'm sure that when I saw the film years ago, the Japanese colonel commited HaraKiri. Were two different endings made for the film?

There was only ever one ending. Saito, the Japanese commander was stabbed to death in the riverbed by Joyce, one of the saboteurs.

Are you mixing it up with Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, when one of the Japanese committed suicide, although well before the end?
