em10 set me thinking

There was a fairly disappointing response to her suggestion of recasting the Magnificent Seven, I reckon because of the numbers involved (several contributors came up with a couple of names).
What if we started a rolling thread each month to pick one (classic, so that most people will know it) film?
The nominator will choose whoever in their opinion has given the best answer, and they choose the next month's, and so on.
Anyone up for it?

sounds good to me......sorry but you cant have the magnificent seven without Yu Brinner.
nanny

the idea was to choose 7 completely different actors past and present
i know Yul was integral to the original film, just thought it
might be fun seeing who would some go for.
I see EM10 ,will have a think about 7 new male leads
my question was from yesterday, some surprising ones, some very good choices, like Mark Harmon, in the James Coburn role.
as a movie buff, i'm game
Remaking a classic film does not work....i could name many such failures but possibly the worst is the remake of The Italian Job.As nanny says you cant have the Mag 7 without Yul...likewise any remake of an Eastwood , Steve Mcqueen (The Great Escape wiothoit Mcqueen...impossible I cringe at the thought of Dirty Harry without Clint.) So personally I cannot see the point of making any such suggeastions where true classic films would only result in possibly better special effects but inferior acting and content.A classic film is just that...a film to hold high and enjoy time and time again.A remake is just a bandwagon to attract appeal by its title as in general the film would go unoticed by the public.Just my opinion though...lol

Microgram, you've missed the point.
No-one seriously wants them remade, just a bit of fun thinking who would work as well, or wholly outrageous - but hopefully humorous -counter proposals.
One session at a management conference came up with Bela Lugosi and Elsa Lanchester for "Gone With The Wind"!

Sorry, mickrog, I didn't notice spellcheck putting you down as a skinnymalink!
The Magnificent Seven was a remake itself, of Seven Samurai.
I understand BigJacks post, Just looking for alternative actors, not to remake a film say like the The Italian Job, Or Alfie, both poor in comparison to the originals.
Question Author
Spot on, em10.
it was going on from my original post about having different actors for
The Magnificent 7, a great film with a great cast. Not to remake it, though as someone pointed out, it was a remake of The Seventh Samurai, a compelling and brilliant film.
I would contribute :)
Who would you cast for a female version of The Magnificent Seven?
zeuhl, excellent, now we are hitting on something

talking of women in their prime...
Katherine Hepburn
Geena Davis
Grace Jones
Julia Roberts
Bette Davis
Audrey Tatou
Maggie Smith
Question Author
Dunno, but you could put your suggestion on the original thread, and I might have a think about it - interesting notion!
harder than looking for the male counterpart, as women are not naturally seen in those type of roles.
That's a great list em

can you line them up with their male counterparts?
perhaps, but it would take some doing..
I would have Geena Davis in James Coburn role, she is very tall and rangy..
I reckon you would have to have Bette Davis as Chris, she is a very strong character.
have to work on the rest...
what a really good question..
grace jones - bernardo, charles bronson
Julia Roberts, good looking so steve mcqueen
Katherine Hepburn - Brad Dexter
audrey tatou - the young one
Maggie Smith - Robert Vaughn

a lot harder than i thought, but quite fun... i don't remember all the characters names, apologies.
