Melancholia on Blu-ray

I watched this last weekend - for me, definitely better on second viewing than when I saw it at the cinema - and there were about half a dozen times during this viewing when there was a juddering of the picture which lasts for just a fraction of a second but is quite noticeable each time.

Is this part of the film, a deliberate effect by the director, or is the Blu-ray faulty?

I wasn't aware of this when watching the cinema release version but, in view of the story, it wouldn't be unreasonable for the director to have used an occasional judder as a filmic device, and it is that possibility which is leaving me confused.

Honestly, there were so many things wrong with that film that I can't remember if it had any judders or not!
