John Carter

I read the JC novels when I was around twelve and absolutely loved them, so I look forward to the film.

I thought the CGI was absolutely breathtaking, and I enjoyed most of the characterisations, although no film is ever as good as a reader's immagination.

So I am sad to read that relative to its production budget, the film is a box-office flop and it's unlikely that the sequel which was left open in the storyline will now be made.

I shall miss seeing more of Lynn Collins, she is lovely!

Any thoughts?

For any interested a bit of an (interesting) read. I note that the flop is heading for $200m world wide.

I want to go and see this and was quite disappointed also with the negative publicity around it, public opinion though? I am still going to watch it and see.
Question Author
I would - I enjoyed it.
I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure I'll go for it anyway just because nothing can get any better than 2 hours of Taylor Kitsch on a wide screen! :)
I agree with greedyfly about 3D. I saw Avatar in 3D and wasn't that impressed, but then I wouldn't have particularly liked the film in 2D. I saw a film recently in 2D, which was also out in 3D - foregone conclusion, it was the 2D one I picked!

$200m would be an impressive figure if it cost less than that to make and advertise but IIRC the figure is more like $400m.
I do feel that people have judged this too quickly seeing as it had only been out a week or so over here.

Never even knew it existed as series of novels so perhaps that is 1 problem.
Not seen it, but have read some of the novels. In theory, it should be a film Mme LeMarchand and I would rush out to see, but we'll probably wait for the Sky Movies showing because:

a) The trailers didn't sell the film at all
b) Our local cinema doesn't have any showings at a time that suits us
c) We will only pay the OTT premium for 3D films if we REALLY want to see the film and above cinema rarely does 2D showings
