IMO actors were better in the past, they actually had to act rather than rely on special effects to make them look good.

IMO Nicholas Cage is THE wooden actor of all time.

I think a lot depended on the type of film John Wayne was in. Some times a bad script let him down, He wasn't a great actor but had a certain presence on screen. I liked him in the westerns, Rio Bravo and El Dorado but thought him best in the Quiet man. I always though Charlie Chaplin overrated.
...I think Nicholas Cage is dreadful too Tenrec.
