The Artist 2

I know this film has been discussed before but I am still amazed that a film can be shot in the square 1:33 screen format, be black & white and silent and yet gets rave reviews.

In this day of wide-screen 3D, superb colour, ear deafening surround sound, is this imitation 1920s silent film a matter of 'The Emperors New Clothes'?

Or could this now be a all new cinema going experience, and will we see the remake of such silent black & white classics such as:

Sunrise (1927)

Metropolis (1927)

The General (1926)

7th Heaven (1927)

Its a one off, for those who haven't seen it, do. It has everything that you want in a film, great script, actors, and a award winning dog, that steals almost every scene. A wonderful music score that fits perfectly.
Its not arty farty nor will i am sure be the shape of things to come.
If you see it and don't like it then i would be surprised.
I have said before that it's my film of the decade. It's not a parody, pastiche even though it's based more or less on John Gilbert a silent movie star, who career was killed off by the coming of the talkies. Even though much that i have read doesn't say that his voice was that bad, as screen talking tests proved
If this is the way films are going, I for one will stop going to the cinema!
I have seen several films at the cinema over the last year and normally either fall asleep or find my mind wandering onto work problems, but this was really enjoyable and was the best by far.

its nice to have a bit of variety in the cinema, only recently looking at the DVDs for sale, I couldnt find one film interesting enough to pick up and read the back cover.
