Film in the 60s/70s

Does any A/Ber remember a t/v film in one of the ''Out of this world series''
basically the plot was,humans are always fighting each other so somebody came up with a scheme to bring us all together by inventing a plot that involved an Alien invasion, they had a volunteer pilot who was purposely genetically altered, I think he was given a bird shaped head & clawed feet & he was dropped from a high flying plane in a specially designed space vehicle. The horror of it was that because of the transformations he has gone through he really becomes alien & is tracked down & killed,I was quite traumatized by the whole thing & have never forgotten it but unfortunately can't remember what the movie was called.
