Vehicles parking on road
I live in a cul-de-sac where most vehicles are garaged or on driveways. People who do not live in this road have the **** cheek to use it as a permanent car park, which can make it awkward for legitimate visitors and tradesmen. Does anyone know a proper way of dealing with this? What are the criteria for 'residents only' parking on a road and would it be costly?

Residents parking is a nightmare. It can be expensive and does not guarantee the problem will stop. It makes it awkward when your legitimate visitors have nowhere off road to park.
As a public highway, and vehicle that is legally allowed to be on the road can park where there are no parking restrictions in force.
Talk to your neighbours, see if they are in favour of residents parking.

I sympathise really I do, but I was under the impression that you can park anywhere you like where there are no parking restrictions just as long as your car is taxed, MOTd and insured.
I get it outside my house all the time, and when I enquired about getting restrictions applied I was reminded that should I want to avoid people parking in my road, I should move somewhere remote.

Maybe we live in the same cul de sac. The people actually have their OWN driveway and carport on another street, but it's at the rear of their house so they park in our turning area where their front door is.
It drives me mad, especially when they park 2 cars there and when one goes to work, they move the other car forward so no one else can park there!!!
We have a covenant governing our estate, and parking, but who is going to fork out solicitors costs etc. Especilly when residents of the cul de sac occassionally use the car turning area for our guests...if we can ever get to it coz of the lazy people at number 11.
I feel like parking in their garage since they don't use it.

Thanks to all of you for your concern. You obviously have the same sort of problem. Where I live it is a case of the same car always being parked outside the same house. It's a maddening impertinence that one just has to put up with.
