Hypothetically, you could find yourself in a situation where things are not just straightforward insurance matters, and if so, it will cost you more than 40.

Let's face it, you are hoping you won't have a claim on the insurance either, but anyone could hit you and (aside from having to have it anyway) you'll be glad you did.
It depends whether you think you will ever need it.

I had an accident once, someone ran into the back of my car and wrote it off. Although I was in tghe car, I wasn't driving my dad was (covered under his insurance).

My insurance co didn't want to know as I wasn't driving and my dad's didn't want to know as it wasn't his car so he was only covered for 3rd party damage.

In the end Solicitors got involved, paid for by the legal cover, and got me the money for my car. So for me it was well worth it.
as above - it is not necessary untill you need it really! some quotes come with it already included, so one that looks more expensive might actually be cheaper than paying the extra 40 quid

Thank you for your replies. All good advice.I have just found my same insurance company on the internet quoting 45 cheaper than I have been billed locally so I am going up office to see why I get get it cheaper on line including the legal protection. Thanks again for advice
Definitely worth paying for legal cover as it can help you get back uninsured losses. Our car was written off and we were able to claim for our uninsured losses including a full tank of diesel.
Never bothered with it. When a friend had a claim I did it for her really easy just wrote the letters when no joy got form from county court sent other parties insurers copy of the claim they paid out within days
legal cover is free with my insurance.

and like everyone says, you just never know. someone drove into the back of my car and wrote it off.. and they were chased through the courts, which I probably couldn't afford to do as I was sent to see many top medical experts and the reports would have been very expensive.
