Cyclists.

Am i right in thinking that a cyclist does not have right of way to ride across a zebra crossing, i do normally give way but some just shoot across in front of you with very little warning, as i allow maybe for this to happen anyway, but what would be the outcome should i knock him or her off that bike

A cyclist should dismount and push the bike across zebra crossings.

Only on a toucan crossing can a cyclist ride across.

However, the motorist is usually deemed liable, mainly because he is the one insured. (She said, cynically)

basically a zebra crossing is for pedestrians and not for cyclists, but that doesn't mean you can ignore them and knock them down!! You're right that a police officer couldn't do you for ignoring them waiting to cross, as there's effectively no crossing there as far as cyclists are concerned - but if the police think you were driving recklessly or without due caution they can still nick you.
