I believe if you can provide a justifiable reason to be excused, you can be, but it's been a while since I was selected. Doesn't it say on the notice?

It only says you can defur for 12 months
When I received notice to attend jury service I rang to say it was inconvenient, and the lady I spoke to informed me that the document in my hand was a summons and not an invitation to a dance
Can I be excused from Jury Service?

* Anyone else may apply for discretionary excusal. They should write the details on their summons reply in section 3 question C. A jury officer at the Bureau will make a decision as to if that person can be excused based on the details given. If a juror is refused excusal they have the right of appeal against this. The juror should put their reasons for appeal in writing addressed to the head of the Bureau.

If you are a sole trader or even a key individual in a small business (ie less than 5 employees) you have a very high probability of being excused.
i was excused on business grounds 15 years ago,

had to stand up (me and a couple of others) in friont of the judge and say your piece,

relatively easy but was warned that if i got summonsed again for jury service may not get off that time,

never been called since
My friend was called she range the jury service told them it would cause her a financial hardship as her employer would not make up the difference in her wages to what she would receive from the jury service, told her to email it them and then they emailed her back to confirm she does not need to attend and will not need to attend in the future.
