Itchy Argos Sofa

You may be aware of the leather sofas that were sold by Argos, plus a couple of other retailers, that came from Linkwise, and have caused bad skin reactions etc. from those little white sachets that prevent mould etc.

Well I purchased a sofa from Homebase 3 months ago, which was supplied by Argos.

Over the last couple of weeks I have developed a itchy rash, with small blisters that has spread over my body.

After watching the coverage on Watchdog last week I am sure that is what is causing my problem. I have not located my 'sachet' in the sofa, and contained it!

I have contacted Homebase and Argos who say that my sofa model is not effected, however I dont see any other reason why this has happened to me, as I have changed nothing else in my life!!!

I have contacted trading standards, and await a return call.

What else can I do to convince Argos my sofa is contaminated?!?!? Where do I stand legally?

Thanks in advance

sorry but if you have had the sofa for 3 months and ths has only happened in the last few weeks, it is not the sofa that is causing the rash. If you were allergic to your sofa, you would have been allergic the entire time, not just the last few weeks
ps have you seen your gp? you could have a skin condition
It would be worth contacting Watchdog - it could be that not enough people have complained about your particular sofa so they are not admitting to a problem... yet.

Thanks bednobs for your response but I been advised from Trading Standards that it doesnt matter that I have had the item for over 3 months
oh i see, trading standards employ health professionals who can diagnose skin conditions over the phone?
bednobs, didn't you know this? I am astounded lol

I think what KLAND means is that this reaction to 'infected' leather can come on 3 months or more after purchase. I've read about this - or seen it on TV perhaps? I thought it was certain batches?

Lesson from all this? Don;t buy cheap leather sofas ;-P
It is musch more likely that this is psychological. i.e. You were sat there watching Watchdog on TV about the itchy sofas and your brain though " OH YES, I`ll have some of that" - and you began to itch. Obviously this set a train of thought in motion and you itched all the more.

This condition is very common, ask anyone who`s seen fleas on television.

Incidentally, I`m sat here trying to offer advice and the more I type, the more I itch - so I`ll go now.
Funny, mention compo, free lawyers, no win no fee, and see the rash of people jump on the chance!
I have heard of good honest! sofa buyer's who now put the rash they have on there arse down to that sofa they bought 3 years ago. possibly sofa's are the root of all dermatological problem?
