Hello, I am really struggling with this as I am not very technical, but need to design a website for my business. I recently attended a college course looking at webpage concepts and design and found this very difficult. I am not in a finacial position to employ someone to create it for me, however I know exactly the design and layout I want. Am I correct in thinking initially I need to purchase some software, like Dreamweaver in order to design it. With me wanting lots of photographs on the site - do I need it to incorporate adobe or photoshop?
Does anyone know how I can create my website in the easiest possible way for a real techno phobe!!!!!

Thank you so much in advance, any help is greatly appreciated,x

You need to get hold of software to create your website some can be quite expensive.
Many software suppliers offer older versions of their products to magazines (supplied as CD/DVD cover disk with an offer to upgrade to their latest product).

I have created a simple website using Netobjects Fusion9. It is relatively easy to understand and has templates to assist you. If you are a technophobe, I would certainly recommend that you dont try and set up a website allowing people to purchase items online.

But if you want to set up a website offering information about the services you offer and how to contact you by phone/e-mail, then I would recommend you give it a go and save yourself a fortune on web developer costs (and software). Get down to W.H. Smiths and check out the cover disks on their PC mags.
I omitted to mention that once you have created your website, you will need to pay someone to host it.

You only need worry about this once you are ready to upload your webite.

If you can create it in word ... you can save it in html format.
(also publisher)

it's rough .... but it will work.

another option is to google
free webpage templates - or free website templates (you get the idea.
the first site that came up for me was
http://www.steves-templates.com/

not groundbreaking ... but not bad either.

MS frontpage isn't a developer's choice but it does the job .... far cheaper than DW

be careful though .... an amaturish site is probably worse than so site
www.easily.co.uk

purchase a domain name and use their website builder.its not top class but easy to use.in fact simple
My advice -- if you have a Mac then use iWeb.

The templates it provides are more professional-looking than you'll ever acheive, so you'll have a website far faster and will have less issues to worry about.

I'm sure there are very similar counterparts for Windows too (I can't suggest any though).

If you want to sell online, I can recommend Shopify:

Thank you all so much for your advice, going to have a play tonight, it is really appreciated,xx
Unless you plan on making a career out of web design, I doubt you will want or can afford to purchase Dreamweaver - its not cheap. Its also a complex package to learn.

My advice would be to go with an ISP such as 123-reg who can provide you with a template based web site off the shelf, plus hosting and email etc all for very little cost.

You dont need any techy knowledge and your site can be up in less than a day.

Good luck
