Are there any specific laws re: bicycles on the road?
Ive heard of people been prosecuted for being drunk while riding a bike but assume that would come under a different category from drink driving. (just pain old drunk and incapable maybe).
Was thinking more along the lines of using a mobile while cycling etc.
I was riding my bike earlier and on my mobile at the same time, never gave it a second thought, just wondered if there was actually a set of laws in place re: cyclists.
Thanks

Whilst it is true that you can't have your driving licence endorsed with penalty points because of an offence committed on a bicycle, it's often overlooked that the court does have a general power under the Power of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000 to disqualify anyone from driving, without imposing penalty points, for any offence, including a cycling offence.
So in theory you can lose your driving licence for a a cycling offence even though you do not need a licence to ride a bike!
Using a hand held mobile phone whilst cycling is not illegal as such however you could commit an offence of “careless riding” or “riding without due care and consideration”.

Also, technically, if you are riding an electrically assisted pedal cycle in law that cycle is viewed as a “motor vehicle” so using a handheld mobile phone whilst riding one of these bicycles is illegal.
Nails if you ride your bike on the pavement, does that make you a cyclopath?
I know someone who was done for being drunk in charge of a horse ! true !!
If you ride your bicycle on a pavement it makes you a lawbreaking idiot...
Yeah Minty, they must be riding the ones I have a flutter on.
Drunk in charge of a horse is a real offence.
Years back there was an old guy who used the same pub I did who used to ride to the boozer on his horse. He used to get totally r*t ar*ed
and then climb back onto his nag who plodded home without him even needing to tell him the way. It was more a horse being in charge of a drunk than the other way round!
