They will investigate the accusations first, if it's found that she has lied to the police, she could get done for wasting police time & you could also get her done for slander.
TWR, Slander is a VERY complex and difficult area of the law.Not worth bothering about in a case like this.
lolypop9 From what you say I do not think the police will take any notice of what she tells them. They are not stupid and can tell then they are talking to a compulsive lier. Even if they do investigate they will very soon find there is no truth in what she is telling them.
Was that code for, you'd be very unlucky to slander someone and not get away with it ?

I thought that the police had to take claims seriously, otherwise the possible consequences for dismissing something on a whim sounds horrendous.
You can’t "get her done" for slander. Slander is a civil, not a criminal matter which means the person who has allegedly been slandered has to take it to court and pay to do so, the CPS don’t handle it. If you win, then you may get money and your costs covered but if the person who allegedly slandered you has no money, you will get nothing and be out of pocket on costs. People don’t get put in prison for slandering people.
but you may get sentenced to 6 months by the AB spelling police instead!
I've never heard of a "person of limited means" being "done" for slander.
Old_Geezer, Slander is very difficult to prove as it is spoken. It is also a highly specialised field of law , the lawyers that specialise in it are VERY !!! expensive. So yes, you do stand a high chance of getting away with it. (unless you slander a millionaire with a good lawyer.) You also have to be able to show that the slander caused you loss or damage , hurt feelings are not enough !
Lying to the police could be charged as wasting police time, and lying in court can be perjury both of which are criminal law cases , not civil law like slander.
lolypop9 Just wait and see if anything happens , I do NOT think it will,
But if the police do want to talk to you, do not be scared, just keep calm and tell the truth.
Do NOT get into arguments with them by saying your daughter is lying, just tell the simple truth, they will very soon see through any lies she tells.
Well aside from the slander/libel (one can but assume she made a written statement as well) issue what are you going to do about your daughters attitude and behaviour?

How old is she? Is she old enough to leave home and fend for herself? And if she is are you strong enough to make her do it? Or will you give in, as I suspect you may usually do?!

If she is under age and still your responsibility you could ask SS for help and guidance on how best to handle her.
two questions here

Your daughter has lied to the police about you and supposed crimes she says you have committed. Can you be charged ?
well first they have to investigate and possibly ask you your opinion and possibly not. then they have to decide if any criminal charge 'will get up and run'

you will have to wair and see

and the second question is can you get your daughter done for slander ?
the answer to that is a clear NO
the posters above give a whole load of reasons
but the short answer is that it is a non starter

watch a few episodes of Judge Jugy - she always ask - did you bring this counter claim because you had been sued - and if the answer is Yes the counter claim is always dismissed. The rule she is applying is: a case shall not beget a case.

like alot of us who have been the subject of untrue allegations
you just have to grin and bear it
you ( and I ) are meant to be grateful enough that nothing came of them.
If you complain to someone in authority all that they will say is
" The system is meant to work like that. "
and if you say the system isnt working and they say
" yes yes ! it is ! it is meant to work like that !"
then you must just simper or titter
[ and do not spray them with petrol and strike a match - whilst screaming " I just want to see if theis works!" No NO dont do that
