If someone is taken to Small Claims Court for selling something that is not fit for purpose, and the court awards against them - does this count as a conviction?

Pedantic point: There's actually no such thing as a 'Small Claims Court'. There's just a 'Small Claims Track' within the normal County Court process.

County Courts only deal with civil cases (not criminal ones) so their findings don't create criminal convictions.

Thanks Chris.
If the court finds against them and they don't pay, then a CCJ can be applied for which will affect their credit rating.
>>>If the court finds against them

. . . that's already a County Court Judgement (CCJ), by definition!
I'll clarify. If the debt is paid within one month the CCJ is removed from the Register records otherwise it lasts 6 years.
no it is not a conviction
but would be a CCJ

and there is another thread on whether having a CCJ against you is a pain in the backside (yes)

If you are the seller I would try to come to sort of agreement

Quite a few threads on how to do it ( all by the usual suspects )
and you have to start here

[ and read the rules - they have changed alot since I started dragging people thro the er small claims court twenty years ago ]
No it would be a civil matter, no "conviction" can result.
