How would you feel if a sub-contractor arrived at your home to undertake some work and ignored the most basic of H&S procedures to protect the workforce?

There would be words.
I would feel exceedingly anxious. I hate having work done on the house at the best of times. In that situation, I would have to say something.

I have observed some really quite alarming failings today and it has been bugging me all day.

It seems my neighbour doesn't share my reservations about the conduct of the the subs. Had it been me they would have been kicked off of site and only allowed back once suitably kitted out.
I would say that, that is their issue, as long as the job is done to a satisfactory standard they should just get on with it.
I sorta thought that, ratter, but I was scared to say it.
What type of H&S procedures are you talking about here?
i often have to take my husband (an H+S professional) out if there is work going on at our neighbours!

It was the lack of fundamentals that was really ticking me off. No safety boots, ear defenders.......in fact no PPE whatsoever.

There where bigger issues too but the lack of attention to the small details, showed through in the rest of their working practices.

Had they been on my property they would have been given the boot.
I dont understand your concern for their safety, if they hurt themselves through their own negligence why would it be such a concern, they aren't children! I would just leave them to it!
Hey, nosey neighbour :-)

A young teenage lad is learning his craft from these muppets who are very poor examples.
If that's the case, that is a worry.
problem with health and safety people, is that the the people who these sorts of things matter to can't just walk by!

I might have to find somewhere else to work in the house tomorrow as otherwise I will be spitting feathers all day :-(
Why should work being carried out at your neighbours house make you want to spit feathers. If the workers and the young lad are like you say what does it have to do with anyone but the householder. It will be their negligence if they are injured.

Sycamore, my question was about how you would feel.

I was bothered by the disregard for H&S and had it been my property they were working on I 'd have given them the boot. I was curious to know how others would have felt/behaved.
What sort of work were they undertaking?
I wouldn't have liked it - I'd have been wondering what other short-cuts they were taking. Just last week, I watched three blokes cutting down a really tall tree next door (couldn't miss it), they were standing in the tree to cut the top bit off, they used all manner of hacking instruments (including a circular saw) and there was lots of swearing and shouts of 'I've cut myself'.
The way I would feel is that it is their house, their expense and let them get on with it and what has it got to do with me.
Oh, I thought it was your house, Eccles. I wouldn't worry about other people's houses. I'm self-centered that way. Let them deal with it.
