Whatever your views on rascism, homophobia, sexism etc, should this be illegal for two people to express their views via private texts and emails ?

This is in regards to the Malky McKay incident

Unfortunately, this does nothing to bolster the claims that the FA, and all those connected with football, are trying to drag themselves out of the Dark Ages.

However, as far as I understand it, these were private messages and whilst the language used may be disappointing there doesn't seem to be any accusation that Moody and Mackay acted in any sort of 'prejudiced' way.

I am uneasy about this.......as far as the facts presently stand.
Agree with jack. Respect is necessary at all times.

According to the reports at least one of the collection of messages was sent to other employees ( the Monopoly Board). Also if the phone was provided or paid for by the football club they are entitled to impose their standards ans check the contents of communications
i do not know of this McKay person but private correspondence is private. It should be able to contain anything so long as it does not contravene reasonable laws, such as inciting unrest or plotting crime etc. Feel free to put what you like into your text to your partner hammerman.
I'm not racist, homophobic or anti anything but I do think that private calls between two people are exactly that. Private.
Yes Jeza. How long until the thought police?
i would question if they are in the right job ?
The thing is that M M is a senior member of the club. He must conduct himself properly. Clearly not here
I think it depends on the parties to the private conversation.
If it is a regional manager and local manager discussing ways to get round employment laws in their own time that is surely illegal?
Imo, people can say what they like- they just shouldn't be surprised if others judge them on it and decide they're pillocks.

Sadly it wasn't Private Calls between two people, it was Emails and Text Messages which create a record, so always open to exposure!
I live amongst a lot of old people, most are in their 80's and 90's. When speaking about black people they call them darkies. They are not being racist they are, as they see it saying what they see. Equally with gay men, they call them nancy boys. They tell me they all knew someone even back in the 40's.
They used work computers innit ?
In which case it would not be private

and when it comes to it,
if you emailed someone that you approved of the latest beheading in Syria,
and were gonna go out there wid lots a money

would you be surprised if the national agencies got interested
and would you expect - but it was a prive email to my mum
to wash in any court ?
Jeza it doesnt take much to tell a well er darkie even in the forties
Jesa, age doesn't matter. Its still wrong
Try telling that to my neighbours Milvus. They mean no malice.
Yes they do Jeza. How do you think the recipient feels. They don't care. I am probably close to their age from a multi cultural area. They still surprise me in their ignorance. "I didn't mean anything nasty" just doesn't wash. Yes they did
Jeza is right. Why, for example is it unacceptable to refer to homosexual men as nancy boys, but perfectly acceptable to describe them as gays. The latter term in this context is meaningless.
