Does Anyone Know The Rules With Regard To Caring For Children Over 8?

Not sure where this goes! I have just set up a local group for children doing various activities. Its for children of all ages and their parents to come together, however there are some older home educated children who come along and i would like to be able to offer them the choice in dropping them off or staying. I know that for childminding you don't have to be registered for children over 8 but what about caring for them for a few hours at a group such as this? Does anyone know or know where i can find out? Ofsted website is not helpful at all.

You definately need an enhanced CRB check to look after even 1 child who is not your own or a close relative . Also the premises where you look after them has to be inspected and meet all the health and safety rules. Anyone over 16 who helps you even unpaid as a volunteer needs a enhanced CRB as well.

You can look after a child or two but you CAN NOT be paid it has to be free of any charge. The regulations on this are very strict now and quite rightly .
You need to be registered, CRB checked, insured and the house or place you look after them has to be fully checked. Anyone who lives in the house where the children are minded has to be CRB checked as well even if they are not there at the same time as the children. For example your husband may not get home until 6.30pm and the child care finishes at 4 pm but he still has to have an enhanced CRB check !
Your statement that 'you know you don't have to be registered for children over 8' is is just plain WRONG ! you have to be registered for any child from birth to 18 years old.

She doesn't suggest she's getting paid for it though Eddie. She just says she's set up a "group". It's probably entirely voluntary.
