SECTION 20 WITHOUT INTENT

My son is up in court for GBH Section 20 without intent. I am devastated. His ex-boyfriend went to his flat uninvited after they had split up and an argument ensued. His ex-boyfriend fell and sustained a cut to his ear. My son took him to A&E but out of spite the ex-boyfriend went to the police and pressed charges. It has all gotten out of control. His ex was a part of all the family's lives and he has done this to us. My son has just graduated and now his chances of working abroad look slim unless the court see that this was done out of vengeance. Are there any words of comfort out there? I'm so upset about it all.
