can anyone tell me if i can find out the names of previous owners of my house back to 20yrs? Is there somewhere I can look on the computer to find out?

I think the Land Registry site will provide this information - but for a fee.

wouldn't it be great if your house came with a logbook, telling you how many previous owners?

Do you mean owners or residents? If you mean residents you might try the register of electors.
