speeding offence

i recently got caught travelling at 72mph in a 60 limitin a work vehicle, got sent the NIP and returned it within a week,

i've just received a letter saying the matter will be dealt with in court and not by fixed penalty

can anyone explain why this will be

If the Police deem the offence too serious for a Fixed Penalty then they will initiate court proceedings.

Maybe exceeding the speed limit by 20% is deemed too serious for a fixed penalty?

a colleague got caught at exactly the same place doing 88 mph and got a fixed penalty

Had a look at my guidelines...if you are clocked doing 61 -80 mph in a 60 limit zone its a band A fine and 3 points.

Band A means that you are fined according to your income..

Dont know why you were not offered a fixed penalty but it could be that you are a new driver with 3 points already or you have 9 points making you a totter.

ACPO guidelines suggest a fixed penalty is appropriate up to 86mph in a 60mph limit.

New drivers with three points are not summonsed in the same way as other drivers with nine are, Maggie. There is no need as the six point revocation is undertaken by the DVLA, not the magistrates.

So I don�t know the answer!
