It's not funny. For someone with breathing problems, the consequences could've been dire. I don't know about sentencing, but he needs a short sharp shock.
He sprayed a bloke with CS gas while there were kids in the room? If so the magistrates won't look kindly upon him thankfully. As Ice.Maiden said, anyone with breathing problems could have suffered hideously if they inhaled the gas,in fact it may even have killed them.
People like your friend/associate should definitely be locked up.I'm sure one of the legal minds will be along to answer your question on the sentencing issue.
Is he a policeman?

seven or eight inches lol!

I don't think anyone should be saying that this man deserves to be... bla bla bla.

First of all... why did he do it?? The jury will take this into account.
I don't think the actual reason'll be taken into account booshman!
Of course he deserves to be locked up booshman,he went into someone's house and sprayed them with CS gas! It is illegal to even be in possession of the stuff, never mind to use it on someone.
So say this blokes children had been tortured and raped?

Surely CS gas is the minimum this other guy deserves?
yes, he'd be deserving of worse than that in my opinion, but the Law thinks differently.
I doubt there is a righteous reason for this bloke's actions booshman, its probably a petty argument over a woman or drugs,it usually is at the age of 20.
If the law thinks differently in this (made up) situation... **** the law, it's ridiculous!!!

But back to the origianl Q...
Emma - it may be a community penalty! ie. Probation, Unpaid work, a heavy fine, and compensation, depends on the PSR, the mitigation and the time it took him to plead

Other than that, maybe 18 - 24 months of which he will serve half.

Hope this helps.
