Residential Homes

Someone has said to me that if I or my husband has to go into a home (nursing or residential), we would have to sell our house to pay for it, if so where does the other partner live? Can anybody out there help with this please

You don't have to sell while one of you are able to live at home. It would only if both of you need care.

Thankyou 'ummmm' for the information it has put my mind at rest.
You wont have to sell it immediately. When you die (sorry) the money will come out of your estate
There's so much scaremongering around this isn't there. As far as I understand, your savings are taken into account over a certain amount but not the value of your home until its empty.

Age Concern have a good website with clear unbiased advice.
It's £23,500. As a couple, they can have that each so can have £47,000 before having to pay. As long as the money is in joint names.
I work for Social Services. The rules about this differ depending in what Borough you live in. You would receive advice from Adult Social Services dependant on who you pay your Council Tax too. Ring them and ask, they should have Advisors who can explain this to you.
there are actually some national rules
