No. You can get found out years down the line and fired. Even something you think is trivial.

However, you can put things in a positive light without actually lying. This is why writing your CV is always a pain, as it takes a lot of work.

Not so much lie, but I have slightly exaggerated my skills and experience in the past.

I mean, I did organise those conferences, but not entirely on my own, and OK, so there were 300 delegates rather than 1000, but they were three-day conferences, so ... hey ...

Out and out lie, no, present the information in such a way it might mean more than it would otherwise, yes.

Never, I tend to downplay my CV, because it is hard to get a job after redundancy when youre Qualifications and Experience is so much better than the interviewers.

However, rather than lie, why don't you think about positions you have had and responsibility been given and describe them in a different way as advised by a previous poster.

E.g. till assistant could be 'responsible for receiving large amounts of cash and efficient reconciliation of days takings'

If you have a lack of Academic Qualification, what about clubs you have joined, after school activities, or interests. Use these in a good light.

Put your thinking cap on when composing a CV but keep it short. Readers have a lot of CV's to read, dont bore them.
