I am currently on jobseekers allowance but am interested in going back to education starting from part time hours. So can anyone tell me if I can still be able to claim jobseekers allowance while I am in education or will I need to sign off from jsa.

I'm no expert but would have thought that if you are claiming jsa you should be seeking work.

Yes I get your point about seeking work. And I have been looking for work but can't find a job anywhere that's way I am going back to education.

Well you can't get JSA but you could seek other financial support. See the student finance site

Yes you can still get the JSA but it's dependent upon whether the college or uni class the course as full-time or part time, whether it's funded in whole or part by the Learning and Skills Council, the Welsh Assembly or the Scottish Ministers and the number of guided learning hours.

There's also the fact of whether you will be available for employment if a vacancy or interview arose. You'll see it's not straightforward!!!!

The best thing to do is have a word when you next go to sign on at the Jobcentre.
If you tell them at the dole hole you are doing a part time college course they will give you a form to be filled in at the college to say it is only part time so you should be able to claim jsa because you are still available for work if by chance a suitable job arises for you I had to do this. Anyway good luck in finding a job.
I am claiming JSA and doing a part time college course and I got told by my JCP that I will have to quit college if I get offered a full time job!!! but my college course is to get my qualifications I need to get into UNI so then I can train to be a midwife but no they are piss takers and are more bothered about me coming off the unemployment list than me actually wanting to do something with my life!! I am absolutely boiling at this and going to get advice from my student union!!!
