airport staff

Does any one know the official job title for the men who direct planes in to airports when they land?
I mean the men with the bats that control where the plane parks up.
Thanks in advance

They would have a name if they still existed(if you mean NOW).
I have(in many years of air travel, back to 70's),never seen them any more.
Unless some very small, obscure airports still do;but I think they now are all on computer.

Here in the U.S., they are called marshallers and the "bats" they use are called wands... officially. The wands are required to be day-glo orange and must be lighted for night marshalling. They are airline employees by the way, rather than official government personnel...
