Treatment in the work place

I work for a close family relative in a busy office environment. In November of last year our office manager resigned from her post and i was left running the office as a manager would. I was never given the office manager title or wage but am doing the job that the old office manager did. I wondered if anybody could tell me where i stood on these grounds and if any body in the Stoke on Trent/Staffordshire area is recruiting admin/accounts personel. Any feedback would be grand Thanks!

In a normal working environment you would have the option of talking to your employer about your new duties and responsibilities. The problem you face is that as a family member you don't feel able to bring it up. It's possible that your employer doesn't actually realise what extra work you are doing, but more likely is using your family conections as a way of exploiting both the situation and you for his/her own ends.


Although a delicate situation you should make your feelings clear. If you are unhappy with the response then by all means seek alternative employment. Don't let yourself be brow beaten by accusations of family disloyalty, you do a job for which you want paying. It's a reasonable enough request.


On searching for admin jobs personell selection is a recruitment agency that specialise in this type of work.
