I have just seen the pictures on breakfast T.V. of Matthew Rees of Swansea harriers helping David Wyeth from Chorlton across the line so he could also finish the Marathon. What a great gesture and shows the great affinity club runners have with one another. The this morning they were both in front of Tower bridge for an interview and have vowed to keep in touch.

Wonderful gesture by the Swansea chap !
saw that....would have been a pity not to make the last 200 metres....great cameraderie....
A true person, the human race needs to take a page out of this persons book.
well done them both, and to all those who participated,
I did wonder what the rules were on this for club runners. Strictly speaking I don't think you are really supposed to receive assistance actually to finish the race. Not that of course anyone minds, but I just wondered.
I remember once cramping up in the Mall and stopping. Someone in the crowd shouted "Don't stop now" and it shocked me into life and seemed to cure the cramp! The support afforded along the way by other runners and spectators cannot be overestimated.
It was a great gesture, but I find any race, be it cars, cycling, running, or anything else that goes on for miles, quite boring to watch. I admire the resilience and commitment of these runners, but I found it far more entertaining when the cameras picked up on more of the ‘fun’ runners. When they stopped doing that, I stopped watching.
well done, Mr Rees....sportsmanship like this should be praised. Bet it guarantees him a start next year. To balance this, look at the unhinged Nastase and his tirades against Konta and the Fed team captain Anne 'Thong' - what an idiot. He'll be banned for life, what's left, and he's lost his right to sit in the Royal Box at Wimbledon....big deal but good.
DTC, wasn't he dreadful!! He's really lost the plot I think.
a complete plonker and the opposite of Mr Rees.

Hope there's a way for his club/region to honour what he did for Mr. Wyeth - yes, he may have not been as quick as he could have been (think he was still sub 3 hrs) but he has gained a friend and vica versa.....

Must look up my goddaughter's hubbie to see if he ran this year. He has done 2hrs 30 twice and broke the world record last year for running the marathon in 3hr 8 and something, lowering the record by 9 minutes, for covering the course dressed as a bottle.
I know someone who holds the record for doing it in a Dennis the Menace costume! The London marathon that is.
It was quite a day for Swansea Harriers, what with another of their runners being first British runner. Mind you that also says something about the state of marathon running in this country at the moment
