Much is said (mainly negative) on this site regarding The Daily Mail with accusations of telling lies, being racist, anti Islamic, and of possessing and publishing a particular right-wing agenda, if all these are so then why do they support and campaign certain issues such as the Stephen Lawrence case and now this?

I don't want him here. Do you?
Whatever one may instinctively think of this Shaker Aamer person, well done to the Daily Mail for speaking out for an important principle.
See ^^

Me being nice about the Daily Mail.

It's possible for the paper to do both. Things aren't always black-and-white (even newspapers...).

Interesting choice of phraseology.

No but it is interesting to see how much trouble our politicians will go through to protect it's 'Nationals'.

A good example was Abu Hamza who after an 8 year legal battle, trying to remain here, he was finely extradited from the UK to the United States to face terrorism charges.
The man is a British citizen and it is wrong that (or anybody) should be incarcerated fore 13 years withourt trial or charge.
Well you may call him British. He fled to Londonistan to escape terrorist charges in Saudi. Then moved with his whole family to Taliban controlled Afghanistan to ply his trade, where the US army apprehended him. Now he's British again?
Nevertheless he should not have been incarcerated for 13 years without a charge being brought.
Maybe. Its not a straightforward matter and I don't claim to understand why the Americans haven't tried him. Something to do with putting other people's lives at risk?
They were going to have military courts but I don't know what happened to them.

Perhaps if he does come back here he should be placed under house arrest, until such times as he doesn't carry any more threat to the people of this country.
While I am hardly the DM's best fan, I applaud what they did in the Stephen Lawrence case. They deserve all the praise that they can get for their stance on that issue.

However, handsome is as handsome does in my book, and I reserve the right to criticise them in the future !
Dannyk13...right on the button at 14:49 today ! Can you imagine the fuss and bother if an American citizen was held captive in a foreign country for 13 years without a trial. The Yanks should be ashamed of themselves. They continually try to foist their own version of democracy on the whole world but don't seem to be able to manage it in their own backyard.
AOG

You know my reasons for slighting the Daily Mail (which you have kindly summarised in your question), but I have to ask - why do you seek to defend it so much?

I read the Guardian, Total Film, Empire and the Independent and couldn't give two hoots if someone on AB slates any of these publications. I don't own shares in any of them, nor have I any vested interest.

...so your defence of the Daily Mail seems,...odd.
The Daily Mail has a proven track record of right-wing bias and insidious fact twisting.
One of the two brothers who founded it was friends with Hitler and Mussolini.
This 'newspaper' is a laughingstock of the British gutter-press IMO, I've not just grabbed this out of thin air (as I'm sure you're aware AOG) wide-scale ridicule of this publication is well known, and it's not just from 'lefties'.
THIS, is one of the reasons I (jokingly) refer to some of AB's posters as "fascists".
But, if it were not for the DM and AOG, you'd have nothing to get vexed about.
DM readers fascists? Its better than most imo. Tho I rarely read papers as most news is on media.
Shaker should stay elsewhere as he is a Saudi citizen. He is a POW captured in Afganistan by USA.
Better in what way Tambo? Can you not see its sh|t stirring nature and the way the headlines are geared towards provoking anger?
Many a true word spoken in jest...
