I wasn't working at the time, had called into the office when the argument happened. The work colleague had said negative things about my daughter and I confronted her about this. We exchanged heated words and then I left. Can my employers take any action against me for this? There wasn't any customers around to hear the argument.

had you just come into work to confront her? or did she say negative things about your daughter while you were there?

I had gone into work to collect some papers I had left there, the colleague was there and the argument happened. My daughter had applied for a job within the same firm and this person had said negative things about her hence she didn't get the job. I felt the negative things this person had said had influenced the recruiter not to give her the job! The heated conversation was because I confronted her about what she had said.
well as you started it who knows....

Looking at it from their view, the other employee has the right to work free from stress bullying or harrassment, and it could be argued that you infringed this. Just saying....

Postdog ... I understand this, she gave as good as she got and heatedly argued back! I was the one who started the argument and I was the one who walked away!
Yes they can take action if they so wish, you caused a disturbance in your work place, as to weather they will or no is a different matter.

Only time will tell! My line manager boss has contacted me and is by my side so that's a good thing.
i suppose it depends on what she said... if she just didnt feel your daughter was right for the job for whatever negative reasons, then i assume its her job to make those observations, and it would seem your nose was just out of joint because its your daughter and you didnt get your own way - but if shed been slagging her off, making nasty jokes, unfounded accusations etc then id say she was at fault and you perhaps your actions were more understandable

i assume head office will take this into acccount
