I didn't read it that way, dotty. I don't remember the other poster saying they worked those particular hours, and anyway I though you'd said some new legislation had come in recently that now meant that two 30 minute breaks had to be given for those working hour days.
it has to have done because I changed jobs last year and thats when I found out about it, it had never cropped up in the previous job.
You may be right dotty. but I think it's more likely just to be part of the Ts and Cs of your new job. I'm sure you've made this point before and someone like buildersmate or buenchico stepped in to correct the legal aspect.
Dotty, not for the first time, you are trying to defend the indefensible. I also have noticed you persistently quoting your own experiences rather than statute law and we'd all be better informed if you didn't do it; it confuses the punters and ends up in an unnecessary debate.
Chris is correct, as usual, and employers have to contract with employees such that the shifts satisfy the minimum statutory requirements. Most employers do not pay staff during the statutory breaks, but a few may do - as Hopkirk observed.
Employers may provide additional rest breaks - either paid or unpaid.
