Beware if you see any reference to a new Party called " Britain First" It is in effect a new Far-Right party, formed by ex-Members of the BNP ::

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain_First

It might look quite cuddly and very patriotic, with its images of the Queen, poppies and suchlike but its the same tired old band of Fascist thugs, for whom Asians are the new Jews. I have warned about the rise of the Far Right on AB before, especially in Europe but these Fascists are marching in Britain, not Berlin. We ignore these racist thugs at our peril.

I think the media interest, and therefore the discussion and general unease generated by the far-right in Britain is directly inversely proportional to the effect they actually have on life in general - empty vessels really do make the most noise.
They are a lovely bunch, I'm a member of ' Britain Furst' which is a spoof site of them on Facebook, mocking their views satirically and we've had death threats and all sorts from them. Charming bunch of lads.

With the greatest of respect Andy, that is exactly what these thugs are relying on...complacency.

The rise in social media is changing the world, whether we like it or not. People are now receiving trash about "Britain First" in their Facebook, Twitter, etc accounts every day. Those amongst our population that are less discerning and more gullible, are being taken in by this outfit, because they seem so innocent at first sight. They campaign on animal cruelty and abortion but in effect they aren't the slightest bit concerned about those topics, but use them to reel-in the credulous. They are also extremely violent, as can be seen from the Wiki entry.

Its the same old, same old....we seems to have learned nothing from the days when Mosley was active. This lot recruit in exactly the same way as he did, and from the same sector of our society. They haven't got the support of the Daily Mail like the British Union of Fascists did yet but who knows what they will achieve in the future.
Is there actually a 'rise' of the far right, or is it just the usual bunch that have always been with us in various guises?

Kvalidir......if only charming was the worst thing that we could say about them !

Keep up the good fight !

Ludwig...without a doubt, the Far Right IS on the rise.....social media has changed things forever. You can reach millions of people at the touch of your send button. Think what Hitler and Goebbels would have done with the internet and Facebook !
mikey - "With the greatest of respect Andy, that is exactly what these thugs are relying on...complacency."

It's not compacency - it's a cursory examination of recent histtory which has shown that the Far Right periodically gets the media's knickers in a twist, and documentaries are made and broadcast, and newspaper columnists warn us darkly of the 'rise of the far right ...' - and everything stays exactly the same.

Democracy means tolerating the lost, the terminally block-headeded, the fantasists, the idiots, the hard-of-thinking - and all of those gravitate towards the far right, and what difference has it ever made to the makeup of our society - none whatsoever.

The British Far Right are like the monkeys in the zoo - fine for an occasional visit to laugh at some of the unpleasant things they do with their faeces, but not something you'd concern yourself with on a daily basis.
Is the internet an example of one of the best and worst double-edged swords in history?
agchristie - "Is the internet an example of one of the best and worst double-edged swords in history?"

I don' think it is one of the best, I think it is the best.
Imagine what Stalin would get up to on twitter. Its very worrying, alright.
// Ludwig...without a doubt, the Far Right IS on the rise //

People have been saying that as for as long as I can remember Mikey. It never amounts to anything other than a bunch of thugs that never threaten to be anything other than that. They eventually fizzle out and re-emerge under a different name...see EDL, BNP, and NF.
"Imagine what Stalin would get up to on twitter."

Aye, those 140 characters would have made him a powerful despot with a thirst for blood and a hunger for power. Not like the cuddly bear that he actually was.
Andy, I agree, the benefits of the internet are colossal but there are some dangerous drawbacks, too numerous to mention and I don't wish to divert Mikey's thread.
Mikey, I remember one time I spent a couple of hours on a bus trip through Tennessee. I had a fascinating conversation with the guy next to me.

His uncle was a Grand Wizard in the KKK. I remember thinking - thank God that'll never happen in the UK.

But then, such thinking is not so entrenched here as it is in the Southern. States. Let's hope it never is.
agchristie - "Andy, I agree, the benefits of the internet are colossal but there are some dangerous drawbacks, too numerous to mention and I don't wish to divert Mikey's thread."

Nor I, but I must agree also with Ludwig's assessment of the impact of the Far Right.

I remember growing up with the Cold War, and how Russia's threat to vapourise the planet was all-encompassing, and there were endless Ban-The Bomb marches, and CND shouting from the rooftops, and in the end, it just all went away.

I honestly believe in the inherent good sense and overall goodness of the majority of the population of this planet of ours, and although the UK media is increasingly mimicing its American counterpart and turning 'news' into scare-mongering, I believe that the majority of the people will prevent any take-overs by any group of any kind that would wish to create a fundamental change in the way we like to live.
The Builder - "But then, such thinking is not so entrenched here as it is in the Southern. States. Let's hope it never is."

I think that it is easy to imagine that the sort of shock and horror with which tales of such individuals and organisations are heard translates into an unfounded fear that these people have any sort of real power, or far-reaching effect.

The fact is that The Klan, like our Far Right, are just a bunch of small-minded, but big-voiced inadequates who have no meaningful power or impact.

The noise they make is inversely propotionate to the listening it receives.
I personally think if the 'Far Right' are on the rise then why. It's no good just constantly calling people racist, facist and so on I'm afraid.
Just out of interest, mikey.......have you ever started a thread about the worrying rise in Islamic extremists in the UK?

Stalin was far left wasn't he?

So how come we only ever hear of the threat of the "far right".

Would the lefties rather someone like Stalin was in power.

Because in my eyes Stalin was more of a "looney" than Hitler was.

Of course if the "left" under Blair and Brown had not opened the door to mass immigration we would not see the rise of the "far right" in the UK.

But it is never the fault of the left is it.
Passages taken from the Wikipedia link, can't see anything untoward here.

/// In May 2013, following the murder of Lee Rigby, Britain First released a video threatening to place Islamist cleric Anjem Choudary under citizen's arrest if the Metropolitan Police would not arrest him. ///

/// In February 2014, Britain First conducted what it called the "Christian Patrol" in an area of Tower Hamlets, East London, with a high Muslim population, to counter continuing Muslim Patrols which had first come to media attention in 2013 ///

/// In July 2014, Britain First entered the Crayford Mosque in South London, demanding that its segregated entrances be removed, with Golding saying, "When you respect women we’ll respect your mosques." ///

/// In August 2014, after a report which revealed that over 1,400 girls had been sexually abused in Rotherham, mainly by Pakistani men, Britain First protested inside the headquarters of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council with a banner saying "Justice for victims of Muslim grooming". ///
