Hi, I have recently applied for funding from student loans, 24+ advanced learning loans, to do a Level 3, Health and Social Care course and I was turned down. I have been told this is because I have still some arrears from a previous loan. I really need to get this level 3 because I want to be a drug and alcohol worker and I cant be in that profession without level 3.
Does anyone know of anywhere else were I can apply for funding, maybe a charity or something. I would appreciate it so much. I am desparate do do this course. Please let me know.

Mant thx.

Can you not enter into some kind of agreement to pay off the loan arrears?
Two thoughts
A) you fund it yourself through a bank loan
B) you find out if the service wold employ you now as an Advanced Apprentice, which means you have a training contract for a year, learn on the job and study for the NVQ at the same time. If you did that, you would be paid a minimum wage but the government scheme pays your course fees.
^however it might depend if your previous loan was for an earlier NVQ - you can't get the funding twice for NVQs

Hi woofgang, I am paying it off but they wont give me funding until it is all clear.
The course has already started and I have been in the class for the last two weeks but if I dont get it soon I will have to leave. I shouldn't even have these arrears. They are because one year I applied to defer a payment, I sent off the letter, they say they didn't recieve it, so they charged me for not deferring it. I have been arguing with them for years over this matter. I sent it, they didn't recieve it. What can I do?
I'm surprised they let you start without funding confirmation - i used to place students on NVQ programmes and would never have got away with that!

Retrospective applications for funding aren't usually considerded and as time is so short you may have to consider self funding. Are we talking about £2500 ish for the fees for L3?

Hi Boxtops, Tried a bank loan, turned down. The service I am voluntering with may fund me at a later date but they have many applicants and a lot less money since the recession. Even though I am voluntering with them there is no guarantee that it will happen.

Nearly half the class hasn't had confirmation of their funding but they have all been studying. The process is so long. I was nearly 8 hours on one day and six hours on another day going through the enrollment process in college. Maybe a lot of people will be leaving the class.
I can't think of anything else at this late stage, sorry - unless your NVQ provider will accept instalments payment from candidates who are self-funding - have you asked them?

The fee is £3012. Dont know what the £12 is for. But my arrears are a lot less, a third of that.

i don't understand how applying to defer one payment has left you with a debt of approx 1k.
I also don't understand how you plan to pay off a new loan when you already have such high arrears - you are already 1k in debt and you want to increase that to 4k.

In all honesty you would be much better to find a job, pay off the debts and then apply again
