Re Insuring a write off

I've recently had my car written off. very minor damage but as it is a J reg Micra, i'm not exactly surprised. however, the insurance company has said that i can keep hold of the car, but my insurance has been cancelled.
the repairs are very minor, but i have not received any details of what actually needs repairing. it still drives fine but the MOT is coming up and so is the tax.
i just need a bit of advice about where to go from here. what steps do i need to take to get it re insured?

thanks

it depends on which catogory they have written it off under,i presume they have paid you out a sum of money and let you keep the car,if its a cat D,then you dont have to do anything, just mot,tax and re insure it and off you go,if its a cat C,get it repaired, then it will need a VIC VOSA CHECK,about 40 pounds, after that just do as normal, mot, tax and re insure it and off you go.if its a cat A OR B,THEN SCRAP IT.

Given the age of the vehicle, realistically, a repair cost of under £200 would deem it a total loss if it came to me.

We see a lot of cars this age written off due to a cracked bumper or simply paint being scratched in a vandal attack - both of these scenarios are very minor, but given the age/market value of the vehicle, they necessitate writing the vehicle off in line with the guidelines we have to follow.

Norman has summed it up pretty simply - so long as the car is a Category C or D (as I suspect it to be), then there will be no issue re-insuring it - just remember that if you are unfortunate to have to make another claim, then your settlement will be reduced to reflect the vehicle history.

Thanks for the advice

The insurance company hasn't actually told me which catergory it is, but like you said a cracked bumper is enough to write it off!!!

I'll be giving them a call later.

Thanks again for the help
