Is it cheaper to get House and contents insurance combined or can it be cheaper to get them separately?

Thank you divebuddy - that is what I've always done in the past. I'm on Go Compare at the moment.

The policy has always just been in my name - is it better to be in both names?

I've always opted for the combined policy

phww dive buddy I didn't know that they could break or be stolen ;-)

Thank you janbee
Firstly, always best to combine the two - avoids any "grey" areas when it comes to a claim, ie, when something can be described as contents/buildings.

Secondly, try not to be focused on the cheapest insurance, focus on the best you can afford.

Thirdly, try your local insurance broker - they can tailor the cover you actually need.

Finally, why anyone would rely on a computer generated meerkat to influence their buying decision is beyond me...
I had my house & contents renewal notice yesterday for £210. I used one of the popular comparison sites using the cover details on the renewal to compare like with like. The exact same company, who I've been with for some years, quoted me on line at £135.

I then had a pop up from the company asking if I wanted to "Live Chat". I explained what I'd done and asked what the reason was. She said she'd look into it. She came back saying on line quotes were often cheaper but it was unusual to get such a large difference in premium. She offered to cancel the £210 renewal price and alter it to £135. Needless to say I accepted.

I did the same thing with the same company for my car insurance in July and saved £35.
